Tacen Flooded

We arrived in Tacen on Monday to find the water level very low. This made the top drop a lot easier but the rest of the course was quite shallow. Since it was raining we guessed the level was probably gonna come up before the race. This was the case on Tuesday the river was a bit higher for training and then on Wednesday the weather really kicked off with non-stop rain all day.

Wednesday night was scheduled for the flat-water parallel slalom in the town center. This race happens every year as a publicity event for the main race at the weekend. It's a great spectacle and having watched it many times but never competed we were keen to get involved. As the day progressed it seemed like it would have to be cancelled due to the weather but the organisers got a hot tip from a weather forecaster that the rain would stop at 7pm so it was all on...

Except it wasn't for us, I somehow picked up a neck injury in the afternoon session which started to stiffen up loads on the drive in to the race and so we had to pull out. It was disappointing to miss the race but the rain did not let up at all so it was nice to be back in the hotel.

After a full 24 hours of torrential rain something had to give and today the official world cup training has been cancelled due to the course being flooded. Check out the photos to get an idea of what it looks like. For us this is probably a blessing in disguise as my neck is still not quite ready for action but should hopefully be all good by tomorrow.

The rain has stopped now so the river is expected to drop just as quickly and training should be back to normal tomorrow.

Check out the official website link below for race info.

Cheers Tim
